How to get a University of Chicago Transcript
The University of Chicago was incorporated in 1890 by the American Baptist Education Association as a coeducational: 137” institution, using a $400,000 donation to ABES to supplement Standard Oil co-founder John D. Rockefeller and including the land donated by Marshall Field. While Rockefeller’s endowment provided funding for academic operations and long-term endowments, it was stipulated that these funds could not be used for construction. Funding for the Hyde Park campus came from wealthy Chicagoans like Silas B. Cobb who funded the campus’ first building, the Cobb Lecture Hall, and matched Marshall Field’s $100,000 commitment. Other early donors included businessman Charles L. Hutchinson (trustee, treasurer and donor of Hutchinson Commons), Martin A. Ryerson (chair of the board and donor to the Ryerson Physics Laboratory), Adolphus Clay Bartlett and Leon Mandel, who funded The superintendent of building the gymnasium and auditorium, and George C. Walker of the Walker Museum, a relative of Cobb, encouraged his inaugural donation of the facility.
