It is located on the University’s 17-acre (6.9-hectare) campus on Park Avenue in Highland (now the headquarters of the San Diego Unified School District). School starts with seven staff and 91 students; courses are initially limited to English, history and mathematics. By the 1930s, the school had outgrown its original campus. In 1931, it moved to its current location in Montezuma Mesa, then on the eastern edge of Santiago. In 1935, the school expanded its services beyond teacher education and became San Diego State College. In 1960, San Diego State College became part of the California State College System, now known as California State University. Eventually in 1972, San Diego State College became California State University
