California State University-Northridge (CSUN/smysʌn/or California State University-Northridge) is a public university in the Northridge neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. California State University Northridge was originally established as the Valley Satellite Campus of California State University Los Angeles. It became an independent college in 1958, named San Fernando Valley State College, and the main campus master plan construction. The university was renamed Northridge California State University in 1972. The 1994 Northridge Earthquake caused US$400 million in damage to the campus, which was the worst loss ever suffered by an American university campus.
The university offers 134 different bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 70 different fields, as well as four doctorates (two educational doctorates, one audiology doctorate and one physical therapy doctorate) and 24 teaching certificates. CSUN is considered one of the most diverse universities in the country and currently has more than 350,000 alumni. In addition, CSUN has always been recognized as having one of the best film academies and music academies in the United States and the world. It is also home to the National Center for the Deaf, the university hosts an annual international conference on technology and persons with disabilities, commonly referred to as the CSUN conference.
